Hour of code

http://www.tynker.com/schools

On Monday while the year 3 girls were away at the rippa tournament getting signatures from Otago players, the rest of us dabbled in some coding games.
We had a lot of fun and our brains were working hard to solve the problems in the games.

Here is a great video to watch about why coding is useful for our young ones if you are interested.

Now that we have all logged in and had a practise, we may even get to add this to our 'Can Do' options.

We saw some great problem solving, perseverance and persistence, especially from some of our year 2 students! Van and Charlotte were helping others and got up to really high levels. Ka Pai!

Writing

We are learning about describing our nouns with adjectives. Check out Mabel's awesome writing about the image below. Ka Pai Mabel!

What an amazing time we all had in Dunedin on Wednesday. The whole Junior syndicate visited the Toi Toi Museum along with the Otago Museum. We hunted for treasures about Asia at both places. At the Otago Museum we got to role play different parts of the Chinese New year. We learned lots about it. Here are some of the things we learned: 1. Chinese New Year is In January or February 2. People clean their houses for NewYear 3 There are fireworks 4. People dress up in special clothes 5. People eat yummy foods with chopsticks 6. Red is avery special colour 7. People give out red envelopes with money in them

Wontons

We have been super busy this week! We made some Wontons with Mrs Souness, and her mum Mrs Wong came in to help. Some people liked the wontons and some people didn't, and some people were not brave enough to give them a try!
We all loved making them and had a really great time! We enjoyed smelling the ingredients and talking about how they felt and smelled. What a fun day!
