Hour of code
http://www.tynker.com/schools
On Monday while the year 3 girls were away at the rippa tournament getting signatures from Otago players, the rest of us dabbled in some coding games.
We had a lot of fun and our brains were working hard to solve the problems in the games.
Here is a great video to watch about why coding is useful for our young ones if you are interested.
Now that we have all logged in and had a practise, we may even get to add this to our 'Can Do' options.
We saw some great problem solving, perseverance and persistence, especially from some of our year 2 students! Van and Charlotte were helping others and got up to really high levels. Ka Pai!

Wontons
We have been super busy this week! We made some Wontons with Mrs Souness, and her mum Mrs Wong came in to help. Some people liked the wontons and some people didn't, and some people were not brave enough to give them a try!
We all loved making them and had a really great time! We enjoyed smelling the ingredients and talking about how they felt and smelled. What a fun day!

FUNASIA
We have started our inquiry FUNASIA this week with lots of mucking in about Asia. Firstly Mrs Souness gave us some secret puzzle pieces that we had to put together in groups. The finished puzzles gave us clues about our inquiry topic. Next we brainstormed what we knew about Asia and came up with some questions about what we wanted to find out. Today we started the finding out stage of inquiry. Mrs Ramsay read us some books about the Chinese New Year. Then she showed us a clip of a lion dance. It was so much fun. Finally we played a game where we had to guess what her secret object was. We guessed right and it was chopsticks. Everybody had a go at using them to pick up pieces of lego. We worked well together encouraging each other. There were lots of laughs and we all managed to pick up something.

Dudley the turtle
Today we had a lovely surprise when Mrs Mac brought Te Ra to our room with a very interesting pet. Te Ra was holding a small dog bed with something inside. It was all wrapped up in blankets. We thought it was a puppy or kitten. What a surprise we got when he pulled back the blankets and showed us his turtle. His turtle is named Dudley and lives in a tank at his Nana's house. Dudley likes to eat steak. He also likes it when we are very quiet. Thanks Mrs Mac and Te Ra for sharing this with us.
Dudley is quite at home in Room three. |

We are getting ready to bunny hop through the hoops. It is quite tricky. Some of us are getting really fast. |

Room three are learning how to measure by using direct comparison or rulers. Today we designed a bridge that would be wide enough for the Gingerbread man to cross so he wouldn't get eaten.
Spelling
Today Mrs Ramsay showed us how to do our spelling journal. Our spelling journal will help us to spell words correctly. We get to practise writing the words in lots of different ways.
